Learning Review Weeks 3–4 (SSU)

Learning Review Procedure: Teachers facilitate discussion and ask for student participation on Core Bible Stories, Weekly Bible Verses, and songs. Choose students to answer verbally in class. No writing is required, except for notes taken on the lyrics pages. Discussion is designed so that students increase long-term memory of the main ideas and hide God’s Word in their hearts!

Weeks 3 and 4 Core Bible Story  (10 minutes)

Review Acts 4:23–31 — The Believers Pray for Boldness of Speech

Students turn to the One-minute Draw activity on page 121 in their workbooks. As a class, come up with short titles for each of the six sections of the story from Acts 3:1–10 and Acts 4:1–31. Teacher writes titles on the board to summarize key points.

1) Healed by power of the Holy Spirit
2) Ordered not to speak about Jesus
3) Tell about Jesus anyway
4) Leaders against the Lord
5) Believers pray and ask for boldness
6) Filled with the Holy Spirit and speak boldly

Week 3 Bible Passage  (5 minutes)

Acts 4:19-20

Ask a student to read the Bible passage from page 116 and then to close their workbook. Discuss: What is the main idea of the passage?

Peter and John would rather obey God and keep speaking about Jesus, even though men told them to stop.

Choose one student to recite the passage from memory (may get help from classmates).
— or —
Students partner up and quiz each other on the passage. After a few minutes, choose one student to recite the passage to the class from memory.

But Peter and John replied, “Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God’s sight to obey you rather than God. For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”

Week 3 Scripture Song  (5 minutes)

“Speed of Sound” (Acts 4:19-20)

Play the song in class. (CLICK HERE to open your Media Player)
Students turn to the Song Lyrics on page 117 of their Student Workbooks. While listening to the song, students write down their insights and make personal connections on the lyrics page (circle key words, underline action steps, write out what God is teaching them to do, rewrite main ideas in their own words, etc.).
Discuss: How does the song reflect the meaning of the passage?

When we believe God’s Word and understand the hope that we have in Him, we can’t help but tell others about Jesus. Some people may not want us to talk about Jesus, but it is God we should obey. We ought to tell others about what we have seen and heard, and how He has given us new life.

Week 3 Motto  (5 minutes)

“Speed of Sound” (Acts 4:19-20)

Note: Project this section of your Learning Review page (the Motto Buster Video) for your class to view and hear.

Play the Motto Buster Video in class to see who can guess the hidden motto first. Pause the video when students raise their hand to indicate they have solved the motto. Student states the motto out loud. If correct, student writes the motto on the board as the teacher facilitates discussion on the meaning of the motto.

Speaking about what we have seen

Application: How can we speak about what we have seen?

We can tell others about Jesus. We can speak of how great and big God is. We can tell of God’s nature: loving, kind, forgiving, just, merciful, patient, gentle, etc. We can tell our own story. We can share what God has done in our own lives and how He has answered prayer, given us strength to get through difficult times, or comforted us.

Week 4 Bible Passage  (5 minutes)

Acts 4:12

Ask a student to read the Bible passage from page 123 and then to close their workbook. Discuss: What is the main idea of the passage?

The world claims many ways to heaven, but it is only through Jesus that we are saved.

Choose one student to recite the passage from memory (may get help from classmates).
— or —
Students partner up and quiz each other on the passage. After a few minutes, choose one student to recite the passage to the class from memory.

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.

Week 4 Scripture Song  (5 minutes)

“He’s the One” (Acts 4:12)

Play the song in class. (CLICK HERE to open your Media Player)
Students turn to the Song Lyrics on page 124 of their Student Workbooks. While listening to the song, students write down their insights and make personal connections on the lyrics page (circle key words, underline action steps, write out what God is teaching them to do, rewrite main ideas in their own words, etc.).
Discuss: How does the song reflect the meaning of the passage?

God is the only one who can save us. Some people think that other things will save them and make them happy, but only Jesus can satisfy us and save us. Some people think they will go to heaven simply by being a good person or doing nice things for others. We are not saved by our own efforts, but by believing that He can save us through His Son.

Week 4 Motto  (5 minutes)

“He’s the One” (Acts 4:12)

Note: Project this section of your Learning Review page (the Motto Buster Video) for your class to view and hear.

Play the Motto Buster Video in class to see who can guess the hidden motto first. Pause the video when students raise their hand to indicate they have solved the motto. Student states the motto out loud. If correct, student writes the motto on the board as the teacher facilitates discussion on the meaning of the motto.

Salvation is found in no one else

Application: How can knowing that salvation is found in no one else bring us freedom?

Knowing that salvation is found in no one else is great news! To be saved we must confess our need for a Savior and believe in Him. We don’t have to worry that we are good enough to make it to heaven. It brings freedom because we can focus on who God is, rather than on what others think of us. No matter what the world says, there is only one God, and he will not leave me nor forsake me. God is always there for me because I know the truth and the truth has set me free.
