Learning Review Procedure: Teachers facilitate discussion and ask for student participation on Core Bible Stories, Weekly Bible Verses, and songs. Choose students to answer verbally in class. No writing is required, except for notes taken on the lyrics pages. Discussion is designed so that students increase long-term memory of the main ideas and hide God’s Word in their hearts!
Weeks 1 and 2 Core Bible Story (10 minutes)
Read Acts 2:36–41 — Peter Addresses the Crowd
Teacher begins by reading the Core Bible Story. Teacher then asks a student or entire class to summarize the Core Bible Story in four parts. Teacher writes responses on the board to create discussion.
1) Peter tells the people that God made Jesus the Lord and Christ, and you crucified him.
2) The people were “cut to the heart” and wanted to know what to do (how to respond to the message).
3) Peter tells the people to repent and be baptized so that their sins will be forgiven and they will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
4) Many people (three thousand) believed and were baptized that day.
Week 1 Bible Passage (5 minutes)
Acts 17:2–3
Ask a student to read the Bible passage from page 100 and then to close their workbook. Discuss: What is the main idea of the passage?
Insert Main Idea Here
Choose one student to recite the passage from memory (may get help from classmates).
— or —
Students partner up and quiz each other on the passage. After a few minutes, choose one student to recite the passage to the class from memory.
As his custom was, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and proving that the Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead. “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Christ,” he said.
Week 1 Scripture Song (5 minutes)
“Soul Surfin’” (Acts 17:2-3)
Play the song in class. (CLICK HERE to open your Media Player)
Students turn to the Song Lyrics on page 101 of their Student Workbooks. While listening to the song, students write down their insights and make personal connections on the lyrics page (circle key words, underline action steps, write out what God is teaching them to do, rewrite main ideas in their own words, etc.).
Discuss: How does the song reflect the meaning of the passage?
Goin’ soul surfin’ means we share God’s Word and tell others that Jesus suffered and rose like He said He would do. I need to tell others about Jesus so that I can see my friends in heaven and “catch my buddies on the other side”.
Week 1 Motto (5 minutes)
“Soul Surfin’” (Acts 17:2-3)
Note: Project this section of your Learning Review page (the Motto Buster Video) for your class to view and hear.
Play the Motto Buster Video in class to see who can guess the hidden motto first. Pause the video when students raise their hand to indicate they have solved the motto. Student states the motto out loud. If correct, student writes the motto on the board as the teacher facilitates discussion on the meaning of the motto.
The Christ had to suffer and rise
Application: Why did Christ have to suffer and rise?
Jesus suffered and rose to conquer sin and death. This is great news because He did something we could not do on our own. Our sin separates us from God. He paid the penalty of our sin. He made it possible for us to have a relationship with God and live with him forever.
Week 2 Bible Passage (5 minutes)
John 20:31
Ask a student to read the Bible passage from page 107 and then to close their workbook. Discuss: What is the main idea of the passage?
Insert main idea from word bundler here.
Choose one student to recite the passage from memory (may get help from classmates).

But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
Week 2 Scripture Song (5 minutes)
“Up for the Word” (John 20:31)
Play the song in class. (CLICK HERE to open your Media Player)
Students turn to the Song Lyrics on page 108 of their Student Workbooks. While listening to the song, students write down their insights and make personal connections on the lyrics page (circle key words, underline action steps, write out what God is teaching them to do, rewrite main ideas in their own words, etc.).
Discuss: How does the song reflect the meaning of the passage?
We get up for the Word when we realize Jesus is God’s Son. The Bible was written so we would believe Jesus is God’s Son. When we believe in Jesus, we are rewarded with eternal life in His name. God’s Word is “heaven-assured.” It promises eternal life for believers.
Week 2 Motto (5 minutes)

By believing you may have life
Application: Jesus’ miracles and promises of eternal life were written down in the Bible. How do these help us to believe?
